Walking through the doors, we were instantly transported to traditional 19th century Christmas on the streets, complete with mulled wine stalls, roast chestnuts, Carole singers, actors and a snow machine which made it picture postcard perfect.
We spent some time frolicking in the fake snow machine, which my 4 year old just loved! Then headed to the Dockyard Museum to make traditional Christmas cards, dress up in period clothes and learn some history of the ship.
We made our way in to the SS Great Britain to explore the levels, deck and cabins. We were even treated to some beautiful Christmas carols by their violinist on the dining deck.
With the role play from the actors, interactions from Isambard Kingdom Brunel and Charles Dickens, it really did feel magical. With so much commercialism around at this time of year, it was so refreshing to be part of something different. I'm hoping this will be on again next year as I will be sure to return with more of my family for a Christmas treat.
