After salivating over various menus, we decided on Harbour & Browns. Having previously tried their bottomless brunch at their sister site, Brace & Browns onWhiteladies Road, (review here) we knew that we’d be getting great quality food and an affordable price. Something that we needed right now, given how close my husbands birthday is to Christmas!
Keeping in mind that each restaurant in the Cargo development is in a shipping container, it really does blow my mind how each unit utilises their space so well, not only creating great food but providing a cosy yet somewhat spacious atmosphere.
Starting off with a Sloe Gin Fizz to warm ourselves up, for starters we chose two options and shared them both.
We went for the garlic, chilli and brandy prawns which were the perfect texture. Deliciously light but flavoursome. I loved the addition of the brandy, which seemed to give the dish an extra level of richness. And as huge cheese lovers, we just had to have the baked Camembert with dough balls. Unfortunately the cheese just wasn’t gooey enough for me. Having to cut the cheese and spread it rather than dip the dough balls in. Other than the texture, the cheese was beautiful in flavour.
The mains was the real deal stealer for us. My husband chose H&B purely for the beef rib and it did not disappoint!
Two beautiful big ribs, with meat so tender that it literally fell off the bone as the plate was placed in front of us. With Bloody Mary and honey bourbon sauces on the side and topped with crunchy parsnip crisps, this dish was perfection. At only £16 for the sharer, I felt it was great value for money.
We went for 2 sides, maple glazed root vegetables and charred cauliflower with cheese sauce. Both of which I couldn’t fault. The depth of truffle flavour in the cheese sauce was probably the best thing I’ve had in a long time and had to keep batting my poor husbands fork away!
We were offered dessert but unfortunately we were just too full. After seeing the doughnuts on the next table, we’ve decided to return in the New Year to try them as they looked incredible. Overall our meal was a lovely treat, and the staff were attentive and super friendly, even though they were hosting a Christmas party the same night.
Harbour & Browns also offer superb roast dinners and bottomless brunch options which you can find here, should you wish to book.
